Those HP steps worked for me. Admin privs are needed to install anything from Windows Update. HP step 4 to update the driver did not work as the printer and port were both not listed in Manage. Updating wasn't needed anyway, as after all, wasn't the latest c MS certified driver downloaded from Windows Update? Finally, I didn't see where to connect the printer in the HP steps and installing the driver didn't ask for it.
Once we connected it at the end of all the steps it showed up in Unspecified Devices as "deskjet ". Troubleshooting via right-click couldn't fix it, however the printer in the Printers section printed just fine anyway.

On some forum, found reference that the c printer driver is resident on a list of drivers that come with the Windows 7 Professional version. Can't believe Microsoft would be holding out or hoarding the driver exclusively there.
